Kyoto Private Tour FAQ

Prices, what is included, where we meet, how cancellation works — the questions travellers ask me most. Something not covered here? Just send a message on WhatsApp.

How much does a private tour guide in Kyoto cost?

My half day tour (4 hours) is 200 USD and my one day tour (6 hours) is 375 USD. Each price covers the whole group of 1 to 6 people — it is not per person. Transport (trains, taxis) and entrance fees are not included.

Do you guide in German as well as English?

Yes. I guide in both German and English. More than thirty of my guests have written their reviews in German — you can read them on the German reviews page. Kyoto has many English-speaking guides; guides who can explain a temple in German are rare.

What is included in the price — and what is not?

Included: the private guiding for the agreed hours, planning the route together before you arrive, and accompanying you between the places.
Not included: transport (trains, taxis), entrance fees and meals.

How many places can we see in a day?

Two to four on the half day tour, five to seven on the one day tour. The exact number depends on the distances and on your pace. Fewer places at a comfortable pace usually beats rushing through more.

Can I decide where we go?

Yes — that is the point of a private tour. We plan the route together over WhatsApp before you arrive. You tell me what you want to see, and I suggest an order that actually works on the day, including which places to reach before the crowds.

Where do we meet?

Usually at your hotel, or anywhere else convenient for you. We agree the exact meeting point over WhatsApp beforehand.

Does a private tour make sense with small children?

Yes. Many of my tours are with families, including toddlers. The pace follows you, breaks happen whenever you need them, and you don't have to work out an unfamiliar train system with tired children in tow.

Which cities do you cover?

Kyoto, Osaka and Nara — the Kansai region. Kyoto is home and where I know every corner.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you can. Cherry blossom season in spring and the autumn leaves in November fill up first. Just message me on WhatsApp with your dates — asking costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

What is your cancellation policy?

Free of charge up to 8 days before the tour. Between 3 and 7 days before, 50%. Within the last 2 days, 100%. The deadline is based on the tour start time in Japan. Cancellations by WhatsApp, please.

Do you take photos during the tour?

I'm a photographer and video creator as well as a guide, so I carry a camera and capture moments as we go — several guests mention it in their reviews. If photos matter to you, tell me in advance and I'll plan the route with that in mind.

What is the fastest way to reach you?

WhatsApp. Send me your travel dates and how many people you are, and I'll come back with a suggestion.
